Zacharias Wolfe (b1996) is a Swedish composer and oboist studying his joint undergraduate degree in composition and oboe at the Royal College of Music in London where he is generously supported by a scholarship. He is currently studying composition with professor Haris Kittos and oboe with professors Olivier Stankiewicz and Fabien Thouand.

Although Zacharias initially only studied oboe, his composition interest has always been strong, and in his second year of studies (2017) he decided to pursue them both parallelly in RCM’s joint principal study program. The subsequent two years of composition studies has lead him to work with several different artists and performers creating music for both film and art installations. Recent performances has been the premier of his piece ‘Flayed’ for solo violin at the Royal Academy of Art in London, the premier of his piece ‘When they opened their eyes they were suspended in thin threads above the ocean’ for sextet at the RCM and and the premier of his piece ‘Closenes’ written for Norrbotten NEO last summer as part of the annual festival Kalv’s music festival’s composition academy in Sweden. As part of this festival he was also lucky enough to take lessons for Per Mårtensson and Pierluigi Billone. Later this spring he is looking forward to the premier of his piece ‘Clouded Vision’ for ten winds and percussion to be premiered at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.

Besides having written works for ensembles, Zacharias has also written music for arts installations and film. In the autumn of 2017 he recorded his film soundtrack ‘Dear you’ for Japanese artists Taka Hata and Samson Leung’s short film with the same name. This same sound track later featured in Samson Leung’s press show for his new clothes collection, an event streamed by Vogue Italia. In January 2018 he also collaborated with sculpture and performance artist Elissaveta Sfyri, creating a sound framework for her installation piece ‘Agreekulture’ performed at the Royal College of Art in London’s Work In Progress show where he also participated as a percussionist. Lastly, he also created his own sound installation ‘Outside In’ exploring existential and stoistic philosophies and our relationship to space through the use of sound. This he created together with composers Ji-Heng Lee and Oliver Buckland and was featured in RCM’s Great Exhibition Series 2018. (https://vimeo.com/284975956)
