Ana Meunier is a 20-year-old French composer. She is currently in her 3rd year studying composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), under the tutelage of Dr. Stuart MacRae. In spring 2018, she went on an Erasmus program to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts (MDW) in Vienna.

She developed an interest in composition from piano improvisation, and she started taking composition lessons with composer Thomas Oehler in 2014 in London. In 2015, she took part in the 100th anniversary of the Lycée français Charles de Gaulle by conducting and composing for the school orchestra. After that, she enjoyed conducting contemporary repertoire and working with other composers. She conducted some of her colleague’s music and her owns and took a summer course in Lyon in 2017 with conductors Philippe Fournier and Jean-Pierre Prajoux.

She had a few commissions, including a piano solo piece for the European Pianorama Festival (2015), the PLUG! Festival (2017 - 2019) and recently she composed ‘Turbulences’ (2019) for the Red Note Ensemble, which was performed in Glasgow.

Ana also contributes to giving access to music to children and teenagers through concerts and workshops. She has led a few workshops in primary schools and high schools to bring new music to a younger audience. In March 2019, she visited two schools with the Red Note Ensemble musicians to discuss the contemporary music scene and new repertoire to children who don’t necessarily have access to a musical education.

As a composer, she shows a great interest in inter-disciplinary collaborations, writing for the stage, and working with texts. She is now currently working on her first opera for the RCS Bridge Week 2019. This 20-minutes opera is based on ‘Le Horla’ by Maupassant and will be performed and organized by RCS students.
