Jerry Piiponen can be most accurately described as a curious, expansive and extremely detailed musician and artist. An enthusiast both for chamber music and orchestral music, new and old, Piipponen has stayed continually involved in a wide variety of projects. Born in Tampere, Finland in 1989, Piipponen has been studying at the Sibelius Academy since 2012. Upon finishing his bachelor's degree in 2015, Piipponen enrolled in an exchange program at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied for one year under Christopher Lamb, She-e Wu and Duncan Patton. Piipponen holds the position of associate principal percussionist with the Finnish National Opera from Fall 2016 until Spring 2018. At the same time, Piipponen will be finishing his master's degree under Kazutaka Morita, Samuli Viitanen and Timothy Ferchen at the Sibelius Academy.
