Pedro Alcalde has a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Musicology from the Freie Universität in Berlin and specialized in Orchestral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna. In the 90s he was assistant conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras with Claudio Abbado. Since then his career has extensively combined composing and conducting worldwide. His multidisciplinary interests have led him to participate in a wide variety of projects. He has collaborated at the Sónar Festival with leading artists of electronic music such Pan Sonic and Richie Hawtin or searching new forms of visualizing music with Offenhuber-Wenhart and Rachel Reupke. He has composed for the theatre company La Fura dels Baus Infinito, a work for orchestra and tape premiered in a staged concert on the myth of Prometheus at the Teatro Clásico de Mérida. During the last 15 years, his compositional work has focused on contemporary dance and his close collaboration with the choreographer Nacho Duato has led him to compose eight ballets performed extensively around the world. The last one, Erde, premiered in Berlin in April 2017 is being performed this season at the Komische Oper Berlin.
